Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
